“Russian Parisians” - Paris as seen by Russian artists of the first half of XX century
The idea of the exhibition is to convey the perception of everyday life and culture of the city by a Russian alien, to display the diversity of his sensations of Paris – with its feasts, its bohemian life style and impoverished existence. The canvases depict views from artists’ studios, bright and gloomy images of the city, people in cafés, variety shows, theatres and on the streets, still lifes with splendid dishes and scanty food, portraits of prominent figures of the Russian emigration, as well as images of their lost past.
The exhibition will present over 60 works by famous Russian painters and graphic artists – Yu. Annenkov, M.Vasilyeva, B. Grigoryev, M. Dobuzhinsky, K.Korovin, A. Lanskoy, Marevna, N. Pougny, Z.Serebryakova, D. Stelletsky, K. Somov, L. Survage, H. Soutine, N. Tarkhov, R. Falk, P. Tchelitchev, S. Charchoune, M. Chagall and others.
The exhibition catalog with articles by professor Rene Guerra and Varvara Ermakova is coming out in Russian and French.
